ETH Zurich is one of the leading universities of the world with a strong focus on science and engineering. In 2010 it established the Singapore-ETH Centre (SEC) in collaboration with the National Research Foundation (NRF) to do interdisciplinary research on pressing problems. In collaboration with the National University of Singapore (NUS), the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), SEC is undertaking a research programme on "Future Resilient Systems". The FRS addresses the challenges with critical infrastructure systems that provide essential services to modern societies, which is of particular importance to innovation-driven economies like Singapore and Switzerland. The position is open now, with an initial appointment for 6 months (with opportunity for extension). Workplace is Singapore.
The main objective of this position is a comprehensive data analysis of available Singapore data sets (such as from transport, mobility and social media) and the evaluation of their applicability to extract knowledge in order to support actors and decision-makers in making socio-technical as well as social systems stay actionable. Tasks include (1) a comprehensive review and analysis of utilized data sets in the research programme "Future Resilient Systems" sofar and (2) the evaluation of the applicability of these and other Singapore data sets for the particular future tasks of the programme. This research will be specifically linked to the Cluster on "Distributed Cognition Enabled by Data Science" in the forthcoming FRS-II project. The position will be a supervised by Prof. Dr. Martin Raubal (PI of Cluster 3 in FRS-II).
