Studierende finden an der ETH Zürich ein Umfeld, das eigenständiges Denken fördert, Forschende ein Klima, das zu Spitzenleistungen inspiriert.
Grassland Sciences is a vibrant and international working group at the Institute of Agricultural Sciences at ETH Zurich. We conduct research on ecophysiology and biogeochemistry at different levels, from single plants to ecosystems.
The Project “FEVER (Forest Vulnerability to Extreme and Repeated Climatic Stress)” focuses on understanding the response of Swiss forests to frequent heat events. The project will combine data-synthesis and observations (eddy covariance, stable isotopes, sap flux) to bring new insights into the ecophysiological response of trees and the ecosystem as a whole, to repeated climatic stress (i.e. heat events).
We are looking for a dynamic, reliable, and highly motivated student with a M.Sc. degree in agricultural or environmental sciences, micrometeorology, ecophysiology, physics, or related disciplines. The PhD student should be enthusiastic about understanding ecophysiological feedbacks between vegetation and climate and be willing to carry out regular fieldwork in the forest. Good statistical skills, experience with large data sets, and programming experience (e.g. in R, Matlab, or Python) are highly beneficial. Driving license and English language proficiency are required.
We look forward to receiving your online application with the following documents: CV, copies of all Bachelor and Master certificates and transcripts, letter of motivation, and reference letters. Please apply exclusively via the online application portal. Applications sent by e-mail or post will not be considered. The evaluation process will start on the 1st of September 2019 and will last until the position is filled. Salaries and benefits are paid in accordance with the standards of ETH Zurich.
