Grassland Sciences is a vibrant and international working group at the Institute of Agricultural Sciences at ETH Zurich. We conduct research on ecophysiology and biogeochemistry at different levels, from single plants to ecosystems.

Job description

The Project “FEVER (Forest Vulnerability to Extreme and Repeated Climatic Stress)” focuses on understanding the response of Swiss forests to frequent heat events. The project will combine data-synthesis and observations (eddy covariance, stable isotopes, sap flux) to bring new insights into the ecophysiological response of trees and the ecosystem as a whole, to repeated climatic stress (i.e. heat events).

Your profile

We are looking for a dynamic, reliable, and highly motivated student with a M.Sc. degree in agricultural or environmental sciences, micrometeorology, ecophysiology, physics, or related disciplines. The PhD student should be enthusiastic about understanding ecophysiological feedbacks between vegetation and climate and be willing to carry out regular fieldwork in the forest. Good statistical skills, experience with large data sets, and programming experience (e.g. in R, Matlab, or Python) are highly beneficial. Driving license and English language proficiency are required.
