Network Operations Control (NOC) is an integral part of SWISS's Operations Control Center and is regarded as the heart and brain of its worldwide flight operations. In organizational terms, the department is part of Operations Planning & Control.

In cooperation with numerous internal and external interfaces, all flights are monitored on a 24/7 basis. It is the task of NOC to ensure that all flights are being operated as close to schedule as possible and any irregularities are handled accordingly. On the day of ops, we are dealing with problems like adverse weather, technical unavailabilities, congestion of airspace/airports, industrial actions, political unrest etc. It is however also our responsibility to anticipate any issues within the NOC range of the following 7 days, assess them against the resource levels and set up the operation in a proactive approach. Safety & compliance, operational stability, punctuality, commercial considerations and last but not least, the needs and expectations of our passengers are the pillars, we base our decisions on.

For this position we are looking for a self-confident and communicative personality with experience in aviation, who feels comfortable in a challenging and varied shift environment. We also expect the person to be willing to take on temporary assignments in other organizational positions (e.g. Hub Control Center) in the sense of continuous personal development and training.

Your responsibilities

  • Monitoring of the daily flight operation including optimization of reliability and punctuality
  • Communication of decisions and measures taken in response to irregularities to all stakeholders
  • Coordination of fleet and crew rotations in cooperation with Maintenance Control, Tail Assignment & Crew Control
  • Coordinate flight cancellations and delays with Passenger Care Center
  • Work in close cooperation with Dispatch and Mission Support regarding ATC slot management, flight planning, payload issues, communication with Aircraft inflight etc.
  • Communication with flight crews regarding ops relevant topics such as aircraft limitations, ops plans etc.
  • Assessment of all factors (weather, ATFM measures, A/C availability, Crew reserve levels etc.) within the Risk Matrix period and implementation/communication of proactive measures
  • Initiation of crisis and emergency processes
  • Work in close coordination with the other airlines of the Lufthansa Group in the event of high level irregularities
  • Coordination with other internal interfaces such as Cargo, Scheduling and Revenue Management as well as external partners such as FZAG or Skyguide
  • Creating the Daily Operations Report
Your profile
  • Completed vocational training and/or secondary education
  • Several years of professional experience as well as further education/experience in Aviation, such as flight operations, dispatch, ground handling, air traffic control etc.
  • Ability to see the big picture while being able to prioritize tasks and responsibilities
  • Distinctive resilience and stress resistance in order to come up with strategies for complex problems under time pressure
  • Robust health, ability to concentrate and a high degree of flexibility
  • Readiness for shift work including weekend, holiday and night work is required, already gained experience will be seen as an advantage
  • Good knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Ability to decode and interpret flight weather (METAR, TAF) and NOTAMs advantageous
  • Experience with the Altea and Netline/Ops systems an advantage
  • Excellent knowledge of verbal and written German and English required, French an advantage
