Postdoctoral positions in chemical synthesis and in-situ characterization in Zürich

Studierende finden an der ETH Zürich ein Umfeld, das eigenständiges Denken fördert, Forschende ein Klima, das zu Spitzenleistungen inspiriert.

Jobbeschreibung

100%, Zurich, temporary

The Laboratory for Electrochemical Energy Systems in the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering is inviting applications for postdoctoral positions in electrochemical energy storage and conversion (broadly defined).

Project background

We study fundamental processes in solutions, materials and at the electrode-electrolyte interfaces using a combination of the different in-situ and ex-situ characterization techniques coupled with detailed electrochemical studies. We then apply this fundamental knowledge to the design of new battery materials, electrocatalysts and electrolytes that can deliver improved performance (i.e. charging times, energy, capacity, cycling stability), cost, efficiency and safety.

Job description

These are full-time positions. Successful candidates will join an inclusive, non-discriminating and supportive working environment that praises scientific curiosity and creativity. The tentative starting date is Winter 2020 or later. Applications are accepted until the positions are filled.

Your profile

The successful candidates should have a PhD degree (or be close to its completion) in Chemistry, Material Science or related disciplines and a very strong experimental background. We are looking for candidates who are self-driven and highly motivated, creative and excited to work in interdisciplinary teams. We welcome candidates with experimental backgrounds in either of the noted directions:

  • Synthetic organic chemistry and/or polymers
  • Inorganic chemistry, synthesis of ceramics and/or nanoparticles
  • Catalysis and/or electrochemistry
  • Synchrotron studies and/or other in-situ characterization techniques (TEM, spectroscopy)
