Jobbeschreibung

100%, Zurich, temporary

The Social Networks Lab at ETH Zürich invites applications for a doctoral researcher position as part of a collaborative project with the Digital Literary Studies Group at TU Darmstadt within the DFG Research Priority Computational Literary Studies (SPP 2207).

Project background

We use data science, and network science in particular, to study groups and positions of texts such as those written by female authors within literary corpora.
Our main subject is a carefully curated corpus of German and English-language novels and narratives of the 18th Century and Goethezeit.

Job description

Our project offers the opportunity to develop new methods for the digital humanities. Using text processing and machine learning tools, problems are tackled using novel network science approaches. The Social Networks Lab is a dynamic research environment with wide-ranging and interdisciplinary collaborations. The successful candidate will collaborate directly with literary scholars within the project, and participate in a larger initiative of researchers at the forefront of computational literary studies. The position is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and is available from January 2020 for 3+ years.

The deadline for applications is November 30, 2019.
