Postdoctoral position in clinical metabolomics in Zürich

Studierende finden an der ETH Zürich ein Umfeld, das eigenständiges Denken fördert, Forschende ein Klima, das zu Spitzenleistungen inspiriert.

Jobbeschreibung

100%, Zurich, temporary

The laboratory of Prof. Dr. Nicola Zamboni at the Institute of Molecular Systems Biology is inviting applications for a postdoctoral position.

Project background

The research group of Prof. Dr. Nicola Zamboni has a long standing interest and history in investigating metabolism and the role of metabolites. To address both fundamental and applied problems, the lab resorts to a large portfolio of methods including cutting-edge mass spectrometry (i.e. metabolomics and 13C flux analysis) and computational biology. A key technology developed in the lab is high-throughput, non-targeted metabolomics. By using an intimate synergism between hard- and software over the past decade, the group has become very efficient in rapidly analyzing metabolites, lipids, and xenobiotics across cohorts of any size between 100 and >10'000 samples.

Job description

As an active member of several collaborative projects and the Swiss initiative on personalized health ( and ), the lab aims at promoting non-targeted metabolomics as a versatile tool in clinical and pre-clinical research. The Zamboni group is seeking for a postdoctoral fellow to lead these activities and provide cutting edge metabolomics data to clinical partners in Switzerland and abroad. A substantial part of the work will be devoted in supporting and advising external collaborators in the design and interpretation of studies.

Your profile

The candidate is expected to plan and conduct MS analyses of large sample sets using established methods, and to personally contribute to novel developments. For this purpose, the candidate will work closely with a team of experts from different disciplines and work out problems, opportunities and solutions. This is an exercise of continuous learning that requires thoughtfulness, teamwork, communication skills, broad interest in applications, a balanced mix between creativity and pragmatism. Extensive experience with non-targeted metabolomics using high-resolution LC-MS instruments is essential. Experience with dealing with human samples in a BSL2 environment is an advantage.
