The Center for Law & Economics () at ETH Zurich has approximately 70 group members from law, economics, political science and computer science. At the Center, Professor Stefan Bechtold invites applications for a Postdoc or PhD in Experimental Research on Innovation and Intellectual Property.

Job description

We are looking for an ambitious, highly motivated postdoc, Ph.D. student or research fellow who wants to apply experimental methods (lab, Internet, field) to issues of innovation and/or intellectual property (copyright, patent, trademark, design, trade secret protection). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to co-author papers with colleagues from the Center for Law & Economics, engage with faculty from across ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich, and pursue her/his own research agenda in a highly research-focused environment. If the successful candidate is a Ph.D. student, she/he will write a paper-based dissertation in English which makes a contribution to the international law & economics discourse on innovation & intellectual property.

At our Center for Law & Economics, researchers can conduct internationally oriented fundamental research as part of a highly motivated team at a leading research university. Our Center organizes various which enable our group members to meet internationally leading researchers from all areas of law & economics on a regular basis. We offer excellent working conditions and an internationally competitive salary (paid according to ). Teaching and administrative duties are limited. We provide support for attending international conferences and workshops, and for research stays abroad. Our offices are located in downtown Zurich, and the working language is English. The initial appointment will be for two years and can be renewed. The starting date is flexible.

Your profile

The ideal candidate for this position will have a master's or Ph.D. degree in economics, psychology or a related discipline, and/or a law degree (master, J.D., State Exam), with excellent grades. Ideally, candidates should have already had some exposure to experimental methods.
