The Health Policy and Geography Group at the Institute for Environmental Decisions is offering a Postdoctoral Position in Spatio-temporal Dynamics of Antimicrobial Resistance.

Project background

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) –the ability of microbes to evolve and resist treatment- is rising globally. In September 2016, the United Nations General Assembly declared AMR “the most urgent global risk”, and mandated its member states to establish national action plans against AMR, including improvements to epidemiological surveillance systems. This position is part of a project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation to accelerate the international response to the rise of AMR.

Job description

We are looking for enthusiast postdoctoral researcher with a background in population biology, applied mathematics or game theory. The work will focus on the simulation of cooperative interventions against antimicrobial resistance. The ideal candidate will also bring his/her own research questions to develop in the broad field of disease dynamics. This is a fixed term position for two 2 years with an anticipated start date between April 1st 2020. The successful candidate will join the Health Geography and Policy Group led by Thomasvanboeckel .

Your profile

We welcome applicants with:

  • experience working with S-I-R models, stochastic simulations, Bayesian inference methods, and large spatial data sets.
  • demonstrated experience to work with matlab or R on high-performance computers clusters.
  • Basic knowledge in infectious diseases, and antimicrobial resistance, although not required, is an asset.
