Jobbeschreibung

100%, Zurich, temporary

The Advanced Power Semiconductor Laboratory (APS) at the Department of Information Technology (D-ITET) is looking for a PhD candidate working on wide-bandgap semiconductor research involving device fabrication and characterization.

Project background

With the continuous increase of the worldwide power consumption, energy efficiency is a primary concern of our modern society. Wide-bandgap semiconductors such as silicon carbide (SiC) are promising candidates to increase the efficiency of power electronic systems by replacing conventional Si devices. However, despite their successful entrance into the power electronic market, a number of issues have to be resolved to realize the full potential of this material.

Job description

This project focuses on the investigation of material and device properties of silicon carbide. Optimization of established device fabrication methods as well as the development of electrical characterization methods will deepen the understanding of current performance limitations of SiC devices.

We strongly support participation at international conferences and offer a salary according to , excellent benefits as well as outstanding research and laboratory facilities for your experiments. This PhD position requires regular commuting to the Paul-Scherrer-Institut (PSI) and the Binning and Rohrer Nanotechnology Center (BRNC) outside of Zurich.

Your profile

Applicants for this position are expected to have a very good MSc degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering or related disciplines and a solid background in semiconductor physics.

  • Knowledge or experience in one or more of the following topics are an advantage:
  • Wide-bandgap semiconductors
  • Cleanroom process engineering
  • Electrical device characterization
