A PhD position in Shape Adaptable Biomedical Composite Materials and Processing is available in the Laboratory of Composite Materials and Adaptive Structures (CMASLab) at the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering (D-MAVT).
CMASLab is dedicated to improving current medical devices by using approaches based on ultra-thin polymer composite materials. To that end, we are currently developing a novel innovative heart valve replacement device, that utilizes novel materials for improved durability and reduced manufacturing cost. Based on preliminary studies, this promising concept has now to be implemented into biomedical environments.
The research project is dealing with the development of material systems, processing technologies and fabrication routes for novel polymeric biomedical implants. The goal is to develop hemocompatible and durable solutions as well as processing routes for highly integrated polymer transcatheter heart valve implants. Challenges also include, among others, the interaction between material, process and the human body. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with medical experts from the German Heart Center Berlin.
To strengthen our international and interdisciplinary research team, we are looking for an outstanding candidate with a degree in material science, engineering (mechanical, biomedical, aerospace) or an equivalent research related field. Applicants should have a strong background in polymer and surface technologies as well as composite materials and processing. Prospective candidates will be part of an international and interdisciplinary research team and are expected to be highly motivated, passionate about science, and collaborative.
