INTERN - TRANSLATION (Russian) (several internships)

Org. Setting and Reporting

These positions are located in the Russian Translation Section, Languagues Service, Division of Conference Management, United Nations Office at Geneva and are under the supervision of the Chief of the Section/Service or the internship supervisor, as appropriate.

These internships will start early July until the end of August 2020 (flexible dates according to plane ticket prices). These internships may be extended but up to a maximum period of 6 months.

Internships are UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the intern will assist with the following duties:
- Translates, for training and other purposes and subject to review, documents into Russian from one or more of the other official languages of the United Nations: Arabic, Chinese, English, French or Spanish.
- Performs other related duties as required, including terminological work, creation of translation memories and participation in other special projects.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
- Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation.

Applicants who are unable to commence the internship within one year of graduation shall not be accepted.

Applicants pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages must have completed at least four years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution.
Applicants should:
- Be computer literate in standard software applications;
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Applicants to the United Nations Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship you are applying for is required.

Languages

Fluency in Russian, which should be the candidate's main language and knowledge of at least two other official languages of the United Nations (even though in some cases one passive language is acceptable in conjunction with expertise in certain subject matters).

Assessment

Candidates will be assessed based on their Personal History Profile (PHP). Individual interviews/written assessment may be conducted by the Hiring Manager.

United Nations Considerations
