The Social Networks Lab at ETH Zürich is offering a fully funded postdoctoral position (two years), starting in late 2020 or early 2021. Applicants can apply with their own social networks research project. The postdoctoral project is supervised by Prof. Christoph Stadtfeld. Researchers in the Social Networks Lab investigate the structure and dynamics of social networks by combining research approaches from the social sciences, statistics, and computer science. Current research projects test sociological theory in various empirical settings, and develop methods and software for the analysis of digital and survey-based network data.

Job description

Applicants can propose their own research project but they are expected to explain how it relates to past and ongoing research topics of the Social Networks Lab. These include, but are not limited to projects on

  • Sociological analysis of large-scale digital network data and network survey data
  • Statistical models and scientific software for the empirical study of social network dynamics
  • Social network analysis in educational settings
Your profile

Applicants hold an excellent PhD degree in sociology, psychology, network science, statistics, mathematics or computer science (or a related field) and will be motivated to incorporate elements of different disciplines in their research project. Applicants must be fluent in English. The research project description should not exceed two pages and include details on research questions, empirical setting, data, and methods (if applicable).
