Studierende finden an der ETH Zürich ein Umfeld, das eigenständiges Denken fördert, Forschende ein Klima, das zu Spitzenleistungen inspiriert.
The research group of Molecular Pharmacology at ETH Zurich (Head: Prof. Dr. Ursula Quitterer) offers a PhD position in target identification of new drug targets in the area of pathomechanisms of cardiovascular diseases.
The project is focused on identification of new drug targets by elucidation of pathomechanisms of prevailing cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, stroke and heart failure with whole genome and transcriptome profiling. The project is multidisciplinary and applies a wide spectrum of in vitro and in vivo techniques, which include state-of-the-art methods of molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, protein chemistry and pharmacology. The focus lies on target identification in the field of signal transduction and signal desensitization mechanisms of G-protein-coupled receptors. Depending on outcome data, the project will also involve translational activities of new findings into clinical applications.
The project characterizes and validates potential new targets by in vitro techniques, cellular techniques and in vivo techniques. The project involves large-scale protein expression and protein purification of potential new targets for structure-activity elucidation by spectroscopy methods, X-ray crystallography and/or NMR.
Candidates for this position are required to have a strong background in pharmacology, medicine, biology and/or biochemistry. This is a multidisciplinary project and a strong interest in complex signal transduction mechanisms of G-protein-coupled receptors is expected.
