The research activities of the Nanoparticle Systems Engineering Laboratory () are centered on the design and development of innovative materials-based technologies for healthcare. We aim to create tomorrow's therapies and decisively contribute to precision medicine by harnessing engineering fundamentals. In our interdisciplinary team, we design materials and develop cutting-edge multiscale analytics in order to rationalize our material and device designs. We work in close collaboration with clinical partners to bring conceptionally novel solutions to clinical application.

Job description

Nanotechnology gives access to an entire new toolbox, which can be exploited to measure and treat diseases with unprecedented precision. The offered PhD project is focused on augmenting surgical procedures by developing nanoscale sensing and therapeutic elements which pave the way to surgery with unprecedented precision. Imaging and sensing capabilities will be harnessed in order to gather information perioperatively and inform therapeutic interventions. The project will focus on nanoscale sensor and therapeutic element design and online read-out. Due to the translational nature of the project, we are looking for a passionate researcher who is excited to work in a highly interdisciplinary team together with surgeons. Prior experience in a polymer/organic chemistry lab is a plus.

  • MSc in chemistry (organic or polymer), physics, mechanical, electrical or chemical engineering (or a related field)
  • Skilled in quantitative sciences
  • Creative and passionate
  • Motivated to work in a highly interdisciplinary team (incl. theoretical physicists and clinicians)
