PhD in the field of polymer chemistry in Dübendorf

The PhD student is funded as part of the ERC Consolidator H2020 program. He/she will contribute to the project “Synthesis of polymers with increased dielectric permittivity”.

Your tasks:

• to conduct the synthesis and characterization of new polar polymers
• to process the polar polymers in thin films and to optimize their properties
• to conduct mechanical, dielectric and electromechanical tests of the developed materials
• to test the developed materials in different applications

Your profile:

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong background in synthetic organic and polymer chemistry, ability to work in a multidisciplinary field, open to acquire new knowledge and willingness to collaborate with different groups. The PhD candidate needs to be proficient in spoken and written English and has a Master’s degree.

Our offer:

The work will be carried out at Empa Dübendorf under the supervision of Dr Dorina Opris. You will be registered as a PhD student either at ETHZ or EPFL. The planned duration for receiving a PhD is four years starting June 2021.
