Job Description Several thousand patients and millions of clinical data points at your fingertip! The MSD Musculoskeletal Disease Area is seeking a talented Postgraduate candidate to perform exploratory analytics and predictive modeling on musculoskeletal disease patient registries and real-world data.
As part of the data science team and in collaboration with our translational experts, you will quantitatively explore and model Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) patient journeys, understand the clinical features associated with progression rates, and build data visualization tools to enable NIBR researchers to leverage your results. You will further work with the early research teams to integrate these results with internal patient cohort data including multi-modal, cell level resolution omics molecular profiles.
Duration and start of internship: 4-6 months with an expected start date in August 2021.
Minimum requirementsMinimum Requirements • Recent MSc or BSc university graduate in science and technical fields (computer sciences, data science, bioinformatics etc.) • Proficient in programming in R and/or Python, with good knowledge of statistical data modeling and demonstrated ability to query databases and mung data • Experience with using data visualization and dashboarding tools such as ggplot2, D3.js, Plotly/Dash, HTML Canvas or RShiny. • High learning agility, developed scientific curiosity and a desire to make a difference for patients • Solution-based approach to problem-solving • Excellent analytical and organizational skills • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, recognized as a teammate and ready to take the initiative • Proficiency in written and oral English
Preferred Experiences: • Experience in one or more of the following fields is desirable: computer vision, statistics, genomics, (medical) imaging analysis, sequence analysis (NLP, time-series) • Knowledge of biology and clinical science. • Experience in a deep learning framework (PyTorch, Tensorflow) • Experience in working and scripting in a Unix/Linux and high-performance computing environments
