Postdoc in high-resolution mass spectrometry of chloroparaffins in Dübendorf

The topic of the 2 years project is a comprehensive study on the characterization of chlorinated paraffins (CP) in plastic materials and the release of CPs and their transformation during the use and processing of the plastic materials.

Your Tasks
The main objectives of this study include
  • developing reliable analytical procedures to identify and quantify CPs in various plastic materials from the Swiss market,
  • exploring the release of CPs from plastic to surrounding media,
  • identifying CP transformation products and pathways,
  • reporting and presenting outcomes of the research in peer-reviewed journals.
Your Profile
We are looking for a creative and innovative experimentalist, with PhD in Chemistry, specialized in organic chemistry or toxicology. You have experience with the trace analysis of organic pollutants (e.g. POPs) with GC-MS and LC-MS. Expertise in high-resolution mass spectrometry specifically with Orbitrap-MS is a plus. Good skills in semi-automatic data processing (Excalibur, Mat-Lab, R) is of advantage due to the complexity of high-resolution mass spectra and the implementation of smart digital techniques. Good communication and writing skills in English are mandatory, German language skills are desirable.
