Postdoctoral Researcher in the Digital Transformation of Urban Data for Energy Planning and Operation in Dübendorf

The carries out research into models and concepts for innovative building and decentralized energy system technologies. Our work is focused on achieving the energy transition where more of our energy is generated from clean, sustainable sources and energy efficiency is improved. The planning of energy resources requires a clear and comprehensive understanding of the supply and demand and we believe that a digital transformation strategy is key to achieving this goal.
 
You will join an international project where the aim is to develop a blueprint for the creation of digital twins for the planning and operation of neighborhood energy systems. The projects will be carried out using data from living labs and will involve close interaction and cooperation with sector stakeholders, technology providers and industry partners. In the project, we will develop and apply data vocabularies to facilitate decentralized data exchange across the digital value chain. This data will be used to feed digital twin models of the energy system to provide the users with insight on how to improve the performance in terms of energy efficiency and clean energy integration. You will have the freedom to execute your research ideas in close collaboration with our team and our external scientific and industry partners. You will support the dissemination of research findings across the knowledge community, which includes collaborating with other lab members and publishing in scientific journals and conferences.
 
Your Tasks:
  • Develop and apply semantic data architectures according to best practices
  • Integrate and transform data so that it can be used by the digital twin models
  • Implement solutions to enable the exchange of data across the digital value chain
  • Coordinate and ensure your research is aligned with the needs of the stakeholders
  • Carry out energy modelling studies of districts and their buildings
  • Present your results in peer-reviewed publications and at international conferences
  • Support the lab and contribute to proposals related to the research field
  • Develop your own ideas around the research area
  • Support and supervise junior researchers (e.g. Master students, Research Interns)
Your Profile:
You are a highly motivated candidate willing to expand your research and knowledge in the field of digital transformation. You are adaptable and have a track record of developing innovative ideas and problem solving. You enjoy discussing ideas with colleagues and collaborators from different backgrounds and thrive in a challenging and interdisciplinary environment.
 
Your Skills:
  • A PhD in a relevant discipline such as engineering/computing/mathematics/urban planning
  • Experienced in programming and querying databases
  • Experience in processing and integrating data
  • Experience and interest in working with energy systems, networks and demand modelling is advantageous
  • Knowledge of semantic web technologies is advantageous
  • Interest in the creation and modelling of digital twins
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are mandatory, German or Italian language skills are beneficial, but not require
