Assistant Scientist in Process Chemistry & Catalysis (temp. 2 years) in Basel

Jobbeschreibung

As an Assistant Scientist in Process Chemistry, you will be working in the group “Process Chemistry & Catalysis” within the department “Small Molecules Technical Development” (PTDC).

Behind every presentation of each product sold by Roche is the involvement of Pharma Global Technical Operations (PT). Starting with Phase I of the development process and continuing through to product maturity, PT makes medicines at sites around the world and includes more than 10 000 employees worldwide.

In PTDC as part of the Global Technical Development (PTD) unit we bring a broad range of experience across drug substance (DS), drug product (DP), and analytical sciences. We collaborate closely with key partners in the departments Research and Early Development (pRED / gRED), commercial manufacturing (PTC) and PTD. We are responsible for late stage technical development of our small molecules (SM) pipeline, manufacture of DS and DP for clinical studies and Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) across our SM manufacturing network.

How can you contribute?
  • As a scientist, leading from the bench as part of our project-based chemistry team, you will be responsible for the development of chemical processes suitable for manufacturing pharmaceutical active substances in consistently high quality. The processes will be scalable and robust; and cover all aspects of SHE, quality and cost efficiency.
  • To achieve these goals, you will work within an interdisciplinary team of synthetic, analytical and production chemists as well as process safety experts and engineers. You will also interact with our partners from technical regulatory, quality assurance and formulation development in an international environment.
  • You will assume responsibility for the transfer of new development projects from research, for the subsequent process development for clinical supplies – and, ultimately, for the successful transfer of robust manufacturing processes to commercial production.
  • You will establish and foster good communication with all partners in the areas of quality assurance, regulatory, and commercial manufacturing.
  • As a lead chemist on a Chemistry Project Team, you will be coordinating all activities within PCC to support the timely manufacturing of high–quality drug substance.
  • You will be involved in the preparation and review of scientific documentation for regulatory submissions.
Which qualifications will help you be successful in this job?

You hold a Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry preferably with at least 1 year of experience as a post-doctoral fellow, in an academic or industrial setting. Your focus should be on the synthesis of natural or non-natural small molecules, or in development of synthetic methodologies for the synthesis of small molecules.

You have gained an outstanding record of innovation and success in multiple projects over the course of your graduate, and post-doctoral career with a sustained publication record.

Other key requirements we are looking for:
  • Ability to take initiative, provide strategic input, creative problem solving, work in teams and use of state-of-the-art technology.
  • Good working knowledge of the latest developments in contemporary organic chemistry including organometallic chemistry as well as expertise in asymmetric transformations, and heterocyclic chemistry.
  • Experience in writing and/or reviewing scientific publications or manuscripts.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing preferably in English and German. You like to collaborate in an international setting and are a phenomenal teammate to your colleagues.
