The Position:

The candidate will join the Neuroscience Discovery Department at Roche headquarters, located in Basel, Switzerland. They will interact closely with the team of research associates and scientists working to investigate blood-brain-barrier (BBB) biology in neurological diseases by investigating receptor-mediated transport across the BBB.

The successful candidate will focus on investigating the relationship between barriers of the central nervous system (CNS) and the dynamics of CNS pathologies in both in-vivo and in-vitro models.

You will:

  • Design and conduct experiments to investigate compound efficacy across the BBB
  • Present work internally and at international conferences
  • Publish work in peer-reviewed journals          
  • Apply analytical judgment in interpreting experimental data
  • Ability to work effectively and independently according to time-lines
  • Excellent organizational skills, personal initiative and detail oriented
  • Good communication and presentation skills, fluent in English

For this position you bring the following qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Neuroscience
  • Additional background in biochemistry and cell biology
  • Experience in applied biomedical research in neuroinflammatory diseases
  • At least 2 years hands-on experience with in-vivo models of neurological diseases
  • Proven ability in brain stereotactic surgery, administration techniques and tissue collection
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture, isolating cells and establishing cultures
  • Experience with in-vivo viral-based screening
  • Knowledgeable of state-of-the-art imaging techniques, specifically both in Bioluminescence Imaging and in vitro confocal microscopy
  • Experience with phenotypic characterization of mouse and human immune cells
  • Experienced in GraphPad Prism, FIJI (ImageJ), AxioVision and Zen, Case Viewer and Adobe Applications
  • Swiss LTK1 Certification - in order to legally work with animal models in Switzerland
  • Preferably at least 1 year working in a pharmaceutical environment
