PhD student on “Heat and moisture transport under partial freezing and frost damage in porous media though advanced modeling and experimental investigations” in Zürich

This research group is looking for you!

Jobbeschreibung

The Chair of Building Physics of ETH Zurich is performing multiscale research on the interaction of fluids with porous materials. In collaboration with the Laboratory of Multiscale Studies in Building Physics of Empa, we are recruiting a
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated candidate that will investigate heat and moisture transport in porous materials under partial freezing. Frost damage in porous materials is of great interest in a wide range of fields, e.g. civil engineering, food engineering, geomorphology, and in particular for this project, for the retrofit of historical buildings. To this effect, a heat and moisture transport model for partial freezing will be coupled to a poro-mechanical damage model. Freezing-induced moisture transport towards the freezing zone and pore size-dependence of freezing temperature are included. Experiments are conducted using classical approaches combined with advanced imaging with X-ray and neutron at pore and macro-scale, to document the transport and damage processes. A damage assessment methodology for frost damage in retrofitted masonry will be developed.
We look forward to receiving your online application including a cover letter, a comprehensive CV in-cluding publications and presentations, diplomas and a list of courses attended and the names and contact information of three references. Please note that we exclusively accept applications submitted through our online application portal. Applications via email or postal services will not be considered.
