Two PhD Positions - Biochemistry and Cell Biology of Starch Biosynthesis in Plants (100%) in Zürich

This research group is looking for you!

Jobbeschreibung

ETH Zurich is one of the world’s leading universities specialising in science and technology. It is renowned for its excellent education, its cutting-edge fundamental research and its efforts to put new knowledge and innovations directly into practice. Applications are invited for two PhD positions in the Laboratory of Prof. Samuel C. Zeeman at the Institute of Molecular Plant Biology (Departement of Biology).
The Laboratory of Plant Biochemistry studies the pathways of carbohydrate metabolism and the molecular mechanisms that plants use to control them. Our research focuses on starch biosynthesis - an important and active field since starch is the key storage carbohydrate of plants and forms the basis of human and animal nutrition. Having recently identified a suite of novel proteins involved in localizing and coordinating the enzymes of starch biosynthesis, we are initiating new research projects to investigate further the cell biology of this vital process. This research will require a combination of complementary tools: molecular genetics in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana, advanced microscopic methods, and in-vitro/in-vivo biochemistry.
We look forward to receiving your online application including the following documents: full CV including names of two academic referees, a list of publications (if available) and a short statement of motivation, achievements and previous research experience (one page). Please note that we exclusively accept applications submitted through our online application portal. Applications via email or postal services will not be considered. The positions are available immediately, but a later starting date is possible.
