Jobbeschreibung

At Roche, we believe it's urgent to deliver medical solutions right now – even as we develop innovations for the future. We are passionate about transforming patients’ lives. We are brave in both decision and action, we believe that good business means a better world.

The in-vivo group within the Neurosymptomatic domains and neurodevelopmental disorders sections of the Neuroscience department consists of four laboratory heads and eight technicians. The group is responsible for providing the full range of expertise and technologies to profile molecules in preclinical models of brain disorders, throughout the course of the drug discovery process.

We are looking for a Master’s student who will characterise rodent models for neurodevelopmental disease (NDD) through home cage monitoring (HCM). The more naturalistic setting of HCM enables longitudinal measurement, improving the signal to noise ratio compared to typical behavioural testing that is short in duration and prone to disturbance. HCM is important in the search of more predictive preclinical models of human disease. There is the opportunity to write a Master thesis while staying with us.

Your main responsibility will be:

  • learning to use an automated home cage system to characterise (genetic) rodent models of neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism & schizophrenia
  • adapting and writing computer operated protocols
  • scoring mouse & rat behaviour to correlate manual to automated observations
  • design and execute experiments to assess behaviour longitudinallyhandling mice & rats and injecting compounds
  • analyse data with dedicated commercial software as well as customised analysis tools
