PhD position in atmospheric organic chemistry (100%) in Zürich

This research group is looking for you!

Jobbeschreibung

ETH Zurich is one of the world’s leading universities specialising in science and technology. It is renowned for its excellent education, its cutting-edge fundamental research and its efforts to put new knowledge and innovations directly into practice.
The Environmental Chemistry and Atmospheric Physics groups in the Department of Environmental Science Systems at ETH Zurich (USYS - ETH) invite applications for a four-year PhD student position as part of a Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) Ambizione project entitled “Organic aerosols’ impact on aerosol-cloud interactions in mixed-phase clouds”.
The project aims at investigating the impact of organic aerosol aging processes, especially photochemistry, on aerosol-cloud interactions. The successful candidate’s research will focus on organic aerosol’s ability to act as atmospheric ice nucleating particles via laboratory studies and potentially field studies. Synthesis of polymers and peptides could be part of the project.
The primary goal of this research position is to develop a laboratory-based understanding of the key chemical properties required for organic aerosols to efficiently act as ice nucleating particles.
We look forward to receive you online application including (1) curriculum vitae, (2) copies of BSc and MSc educational records, (3) a statement of research interest, and (4) names and contact details of two references to Dr. Nadine Borduas-Dedekind, nadine.borduas@usys.ethz.ch (no applications). Review of applications will begin Friday, November 2, 2018 and will continue until the position is filled. Preferred start date is early 2019. Please contact Dr. Borduas-Dedekind in case of questions related to the project and/or to the position.
