As a Roche postdoctoral fellow located in Basel, Switzerland, you will be driving a project at the merger of basic and applied science in the discovery and translational area (DTA) Immunology, Inflammation and Infectious Diseases (I3). Your aim will be to deepen the understanding of the microbiome-host interaction and its’ immunological consequences on driving inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. To do so, you will be working in an interdisciplinary team of scientists, post-doctoral fellows and research associates.

We are now looking for an extraordinary, highly motivated, and talented Postdoc to join our international team in an outstanding and competitive scientific environment.

As a postdoctoral fellow your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Planning, performing, and interpreting experiments independently
  • Developing functional assays in human primary immune cells (phenotyping, proliferation, cytokine secretion, etc.)
  • Collaborating closely with colleagues inside and outside the DTA as subject matter expert
  • Writing of procedures, reports, publications and other documents; presenting experimental design and results internally and externally

This position is sponsored by the Roche Postdoctoral Fellowship Program and is run in collaboration with academic partners. It is initially limited to two years; a third year prolongation is possible.

You are proactive, creative and detail-oriented scientist, and have top teamwork competency but can also work highly independent. If you bring as well the following, we are looking forward to receiving your application.

  • a PhD in immunology - a focus on T cell biology is advantageous
  • previous expertise in the microbiome – host immune system interaction is a plus
  • extensive experience in isolation and culture of primary immune cells
  • in-depth understanding and hands-on experience with standard immunology assays, including multi-colour flow cytometry and ELISA/luminex analysis
  • general expertise in molecular- and microbiology assays
  • excellent inter-personal and communication skills / ability to build good working relationships
  • proven ability to present and publish research data
  • excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • proficiency in spoken and written English
