The Sustainable Agroecosystems (SAE) Group and Transdisciplinarity Lab (TdLab) are leading the World Food Systems Center flagship project «Enhancing Resilience in Food Systems». The SAE group and the TdLab are looking for a Post-Doctoral Researcher who will be one of the key personnel for the implementation of the RUNRES project. RUNRES focuses on developing rural to urban food value chain and waste recycling solutions to generate improved resource flows from the rural to the urban and back to the rural areas to improve the resilience of rural-urban food systems. The Postdoctoral Fellow will lead project science activities and oversee the implementation of transdisciplinary innovation platforms in Arba Minch, Ethiopia; Bukavu, DRC; Kamonyi, Rwanda; Msunduzi, South Africa. He or she will design and implement research for (i) mapping, (ii) analysing, and (iii) optimizing agri-food value chains, nutrient flows, and waste streams to build resilience of rural-urban food systems. An important aspect of this work will be to liaise with partners in the four case study locations to ensure that the project goals and outcomes are achieved. In this function, he or she will organise and attend stakeholder workshops, conduct field visits and document the progress of this project. Additionally, he or she will have the opportunity to build up his or her own research expertise. This will require, for example, supervision of PhD students and applying for research funding that serves to i) further collect and analyse existing and new experimental and survey-based agronomic, socio-economic and food systems data and ii) monitor, analyse and elucidate transdisciplinary processes in the four case study locations of the RUNRES project.
