EMPA (European Master of Public Administration Consortium) is a network of European schools, that offer master programs in public administration.
Magnetic nanoparticles have attracted considerable attention in the biomedical field. The main applications include magnetic resonance contrast agents, magnetic separation and targeted drug delivery.
Here we plan to fabricate magnetic nanoparticles from magnetic thin film multilayer system that permit obtaining nanoparticles with magnetic properties superior to any existing biomedically used nanoparticles. Based on micromagnetic calculations we will design and fabricate magnetic thin film systems with enhanced properties that will be microstructured, functionalized and dissolved from the wafer. We will then investigate the prospective biomedical applications of these magnetic thin film nanoparticles in highly interdisciplinary collaborations with chemists, biologists and clinical partners.
We search for a candidate with a master degree in experimental physics, preferably with a strong background in magnetic thin film research and/or microfabrication but with a high motivation to work in an interdisciplinary project and willingness to gain a sufficiently deep understanding in the biomedical applications of the particles.
We offer a highly stimulating research environment in the Empa laboratories in Dübendorf and in St.Gallen with outstanding infrastructure to fabricate and characterize properties of magnetic thin films systems and particle-bio-systems interaction, respectively.
