The Agricultural Ecology group and the Transdisciplinarity Lab, in collaboration with The James Hutton Institute (UK), are looking for a post-doctoral researcher to lead the scientific activities of the project and oversee the implementation of the transdisciplinary approach with relevant stakeholders in North Macedonia. The candidate will (i) conduct stakeholder workshops to identify tacit knowledge of the stakeholder community on common bean production in Macedonia, (ii) perform greenhouse experiments at the greenhouse facilities of ETH Zurich testing potential diversification measures for a sustainable intensification of common bean production, (iii) oversee a participatory farmer trial in Macedonia where the most promising diversification measures identified in the greenhouse are tested at farm scale, with emphasis on identifying appropriate management schemes (in particular irrigation), and (iv) maintain regular knowledge exchange with the local and wider stakeholder community. Important aspects of the work will therefore be the work with the stakeholder community on the one hand and the ecological experiments in the greenhouse and in the field. Additionally, the candidate will have the opportunity to build up his or her own research expertise, for example through applications for research funding or supervision of students.
