ETH Zurich is one of the world’s leading universities specialising in science and technology. It is renowned for its excellent education, its cutting-edge fundamental research and its efforts to put new knowledge and innovations directly into practice. PMOD/WRC in Davos develops radiation instruments for use on the ground and in space. This position is jointly between the two institutes. Prof. Harra is an affiliated professor at IPA (Institute for Particle Physics and Astrophysics). The studentship will be based mostly at PMOD/WRC in Davos, where she is director.
The most explosive energy releases in the solar system are solar flares. In this project, the critical early trigger phases will be studied with a combination of data from space missions such as Hinode, SDO, RHESSI and IRIS. The project will be predominantly analysis and interpretation of UV, EUV, X-ray spectroscopic data to understand the flare trigger process.
