PhD position in characterization of two-phase granular systems using Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Zürich

This research group is looking for you!

Jobbeschreibung

ETH Zurich is one of the world’s leading universities specializing in science and technology. It is renowned for its excellent education, its cutting-edge fundamental research and its efforts to put new knowledge and innovations directly into practice. The Laboratory of Energy Science and Engineering in the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering invite applications for a
Granular systems are ubiquitous in nature (e.g. rock avalanches or dunes) and of fundamental importance to industry. However, despite their widespread use and occurrence, many important phenomena, such as segregation, surface instabilities or formation and coalescence of bubbles, are poorly understood. This lack of understanding can largely be attributed to difficulties in acquiring measurements of full 3D granular systems. Recently, we have advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), in collaboration with Prof. Prüssmann (D-ITET, ETHZ), to acquire rapid measurements of particle position and velocity (Penn et al., Sci. Adv. 3, e1701879, 2017).
We look forward to receiving your online application including letter of motivation, CV and transcripts online. Please note that we exclusively accept applications submitted through our online application portal. Applications via email or postal services will not be considered. In addition, candidates should arrange at least two recommendations letters to be sent to Prof. Christoph Müller at muelchri@ethz.ch.

Questions regarding the position should be directed to Prof. Christoph Müller by email muelchri@ethz.ch (no applications).
