The Center for Comparative and International Studies (CIS) invites applications for a PhD position in European Politics: Inequality and EU support in the European Politics (EUP, ) group at the CIS, which is headed by Prof. Frank Schimmelfennig. The position is part of the Ambizione research project “Regional Inequality and the Political Geography of EU Support”, led by Dr. Dominik Schraff () and funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. The new PhD will contribute to the research project, collaborate with the colleagues in the EUP group, and pursue her/his own research agenda on the topic of regional inequality and public opinion in Europe.
We offer an intellectually challenging full-time position in one of the leading political science research centers in Europe. You are part of an innovative research project that will build a European-wide network. The position is available for up to four years and the latest possible starting date is March 2020. The salary is internationally competitive and according to . Additionally, the position comes with a generous budget for methods training and travelling (e.g., scientific conferences).
You should hold a master’s degree in political science, public policy, or economics/political economy. Applicants are expected to have strong methodological and statistical skills, a keen interest in theories and empirical research on questions of inequality, European Politics, and Political Behavior, and a strong command of English. Basic knowledge of theories of inequality in the areas of Political Sociology and/or Political Psychology are an additional advantage. The successful candidate is able to combine an independent research drive with the ability to collaborate in a team.
