Studierende finden an der ETH Zürich ein Umfeld, das eigenständiges Denken fördert, Forschende ein Klima, das zu Spitzenleistungen inspiriert.
ETH Zurich is one of the leading universities of the world with a strong focus on science and engineering. In 2010 it established the Singapore-ETH Centre (SEC) in collaboration with the National Research Foundation (NRF) to do interdisciplinary research on pressing problems. In collaboration with the National University of Singapore (NUS), the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), SEC is undertaking a research programme on "Future Resilient Systems". The FRS addresses the challenges with critical infrastructure systems that provide essential services to modern societies, which is of particular importance to innovation-driven economies like Singapore and Switzerland. Within this framework we are announcing the following job opening.
The main objective of this position is the development of a visualization, interaction and notification framework for communicating disruptions predicted from weak signals to stakeholders, i.e., to decision makers in a control room, and to impacted individuals via mobile phone. Tasks include (1) the development and evaluation of design guidelines for map-based visualizations of predicted disruptions, (2) the development and evaluation of multimodal interaction methods, in particular gaze-based methods, for the efficient and collaborative interaction with such visualizations. This research will be specifically linked to the Cluster on "Distributed Cognition Enabled by Data Science" in the forthcoming FRS-II project. The position will be supervised by Prof. Dr. Martin Raubal (PI of Cluster 3 in FRS-II) and Dr. Peter Kiefer (Co-PI of Cluster 3 in FRS-II).
Please note that the employment will be at the Singapore-ETH Centre and local working regulations will apply. The job is limited to 3.5 years. Workplace is Singapore.
The ideal candidate must have an academic degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Geomatics or related fields, as well as a strong research interest in human-computer interaction and map visualizations. Background or experience in eye tracking, controlled laboratory studies, geographic information science, or related topics is a significant plus. The candidate must have excellent communication skills in English (oral and writing), be team-oriented and willing to work in an international environment.
