The Chair of Production and Operations Management (POM) at the Department of Management, Technology, and Economics (D-MTEC) at ETH Zurich is seeking a Doctoral Student / Research Associate, starting Summer or Autumn 2020.

The Chair of POM conducts empirical and innovative POM research with high relevance. Our purpose is to deliver research that matters and teaching that inspires with the determination of developing better operations in industry and society. The current focus areas of the Chair of POM are:

1. Operational Excellence. Lean, quality management, organizational routines, dynamic capabilities, agile, and change management.
2. Smart Manufacturing. Application of digitalization, machine learning, analytics, and other Industry 4.0 technologies in POM. 
3. Global Operations. Configuration, coordination, and improvement of global production networks.
4. Behavioral Operations. The role of the human in POM.

We offer a full-time position with a competitive salary in accordance with . The candidate will be involved in teaching and supervision. There is flexibility concerning the starting date to accommodate the selected candidate’s availability. The average duration for a doctoral student at D-MTEC is four years. The contract is limited. ETH Zurich rules apply.

We are looking for a candidate with a background in operations management, industrial engineering, or general management. Candidates who only have a related background in mathematical modeling/Operations Research (OR) are discouraged from applying.

The successful candidate has a Master's degree from a recognized university (or will be close to completion), strong research and writing skills; some experience with empirical research; strong team player skills, some industrial experience is beneficial but not a prerequisite. The candidate should be highly motivated, self-driven, and show excellent performance in his/her studies. First-rate oral and written English skills are required. The successful candidate will become part of an ambitious, young research team offering an outstanding research environment and team spirit. The working language is English. Proficiency in German is a plus, but not a requirement.
