The newly established Laboratory for Multiphase Thermofluidics and Surface Nanoengineering is in the Institute of Energy and Process Engineering (IEPE) and the department of Mechanical and Process Engineering (D-MAVT) and is looking for a postdoctoral research scientist in the areas of energy, surface science and engineering, and interfacial phenomena.
The successful candidate will be primarily involved in a group of projects, which include the development of novel surface designs, materials, and devices with direct applications exemplified by: intrinsically superhydrophobic and antifouling surfaces, water harvesting, and metasurfaces for energy applications.
Proven experience in the area of interfacial phenomena as mentioned above is an absolute requirement and should be mentioned in the cover letter of the application and a separate statement of experience. The work will be mainly experimental, however, a good theoretical understanding of interfacial and micro-nanoscale transport phenomena and related modeling will also be needed.
Starting date: The proposed starting date is flexible but is envisioned to be September 1st, 2020.
Duration of appointment: The desired minimum duration of the current appointment is two years. Extension is possible upon mutual agreement.
The candidate should have earned a Ph.D. degree from an internationally recognized institution, typically in one of the following areas: mechanical/chemical engineering, physics, or materials science focusing on nanoengineered surfaces and interfacial phenomena.
Candidates with extensive knowledge of thermodynamics, interfacial phenomena, droplet-surface interactions, soft materials, micro/nanoscale fabrication, and materials/device characterization methods are highly recommended to apply. Additional experience in other clean room methods is a plus. Candidates should have an excellent knowledge of the English language and excellent communication skills.
