Inspire AG () is a technology transfer organisation linked strongly to several professorships of ETH Zurich including the institute for mechanical and process engineering with “Advanced Manufacturing” as a key topic led by Prof. Dr. Markus Bambach.

Job description

As a technology transfer institute, inspire is emerging the newest technologies and methods and strengthening the innovation power and the competitiveness of their industry partners. The innovation center for additive manufacturing (icams) of inspire in St. Gallen is researching Additive Manufacturing (3D-Printing) technologies, mainly based on powder bed fusion with polymers, metals and ceramics. The understanding of the powders and processes itself, but also their interaction during part manufacturing and also the resulting part properties is topic of research work and respective projects. For a recently submitted R&D-project in the area of new polymer powders for Laser Sintering we are looking as soon as possible for a Scientific Assistant - Polymer Processing.

The project, in collaboration with two Swiss industry partners, starts with the development and the understanding of the basic powders and bridge over the respective process elaborations to a clearly defined and innovative product.

In this position, you will contribute to the project work and gather experience in performing and managing industry oriented research projects on the development and understanding of powder bed fusion of polymers. Additionally you can achieve a PhD in the field of Advanced Manufacturing under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Markus Bambach of ETHZ.

Your profile

Working in our small research team, as well as the close cooperation with our industrial partners, requires a motivated team player that works proactively and is open for new developments. We are looking for a person with:

  • A master degree in chemical engineering, material science or similar with good grades
  • Deep interest in polymers, processing of polymers and structure/property relationship thereof
  • Fluent skills of English orally and written and good conversation practice in German
