Jobbeschreibung

100%, Zurich, temporary

The ETH Media Technology Center is a place where you will work at the intersection of research and industry applications. Together with our industry partners, we are building the media technologies of tomorrow. To achieve this, the center provides a platform to work on technological innovations at the intersection of media technology, digital journalism, and design. To join our interdisciplinary team, we offer a position as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Computer Vision and/or Human Computer Interaction.

Project background

We are currently exploring how machine learning methods (especially deep neural networks) can change the way we interact with images, videos and 3D content. Our current projects range from building intelligent content creation tools for augmented reality experiences that allow for context-aware interactions, to personalized videos using video synthesis methods. Besides, we explore how we can build models for the automatic assessment of image and video quality. The close connection to our media partners allows us to develop novel technologies that are directly relevant for media houses world-wide. Direct access to large-scale data sets with real content (videos, images) enables us to explore new opportunities for data-driven methods in computer vision and HCI.

Job description

You will be responsible for 1-2 applied research projects with a clear focus on the potential impact for our industry partners. You will be developing new algorithms and systems and adapting the state-of-the-art to the industry's specific challenges. In dialogue with our partners, you will develop methods that have a direct impact on the (Swiss) media industry. For this, you will be working closely with research engineers that will implement your research into software prototypes. You will supervise 1-3 Bachelor and Master students per semester as well as interns supporting the projects. Many of the projects at the center are interdisciplinary and lie at the intersection of machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing. You will be working on projects such as semantic segmentation and saliency detection for AR applications, analysis of human behavior and interaction within mixed realities or automatic video and image quality assessment. Projects have clear deliverables and milestones and are decided upon by the media technology center's steering committee.

Your profile
  • Must hold Ph.D. in computer science or related fields (e.g., electrical engineering, computational science)
  • Proven track record in computer vision and/or human computer interaction (e.g., publications in venues such as CVPR, CHI, UIST, ECCV, ICML, NeurIPS, SIGGRAPH)
  • Interest in working on applied research projects at the intersection between academia and industry
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication in English
  • Experience in supervising Bachelor and Master students is a plus
  • Speaking one of the national languages of Switzerland is a plus: German, French, Italian, Romansh
