Postdoctoral Researcher in Trustworthy Safety-Critical AI in Zürich

The Frazzoli group at ETH Zurich is looking for a postdoctoral researcher for an appointment of 1 year (starting immediately) with a possible renewal for a second year.

The group is located in the Institute for Dynamic Systems and Control (IDSC) in the . Headed by 5 professors, IDSC offers approximately ten courses in the graduate and undergraduate program each year. Visiting scholars and students from around the world complement our team of 40+ researchers and staff.

The project is centered on the problem of developing theory and techniques for the accurate quantification of real-world riskiness for autonomous vehicles. The uncertainty in risk assessment is one of the obstacles towards the development and deployment of AVs, and also contributes to regulatory uncertainty. The results of this project are expected to impact both science and policy.

This is a new field of research, and we are currently exploring different approaches. The following fields might play a part: statistical physics, statistical learning theory, experiment design, computational game theory, robot behavior specification and generation.

Postdoctoral researchers joining our group are expected, in addition to their research, to help in teaching duties, to mentor Ph.D. students and master students, and, in general, to be an example of personal and scientific integrity.

In addition to academic excellence, we also require a passion for software development, as some component of the project will require large-scale simulation and data analysis/learning as well as the deployment of public demos.
