The Geothermal Energy and Geofluids Group (geg.ethz.ch) at ETH Zurich is searching for a postdoctoral researcher in developing unconventional optical methods to quantify thermally-induced density-driven flow in porous media.
You are expected to develop an unconventional, optical, time-dependent, three-dimensional (3D), laboratory, experimental solution of density-driven flow visualization in transparent porous media, with the existing facilities of Tomographic Particle Image Velocimetry (Tomo-PIV) and Laser-induced Fluorescence (LIF). Laboratory experiments will be conducted to acquire 4D spatial fluid velocity and temperature profiles, with focuses on the quantification of subsurface heat exchange of mixing fluids with different temperatures, characterization of convection waves, and a density map of the mixing fluids. You are also expected to write peer-reviewed publications, promote scientific results at conferences, and assist with the student supervision linked to the project and teaching of courses.
We are seeking a highly motivated person with a doctoral degree in hydrology, hydrogeology, geothermal energy, engineering, or a related field are encouraged to apply. You should have proven knowledge of conducting laboratory visualization experiments, ideally using PIV and/or LIF techniques. He/she should be proficient in English and have excellent scientific writing and presentation skills. The candidate is an enthusiastic team player and has good communicational skills.
We look forward to receiving your online application with the following documents:
