The Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology cares for patients with all types of cancer and has a special interest in vascular anomalies.
The challenge We have initiated an interdisciplinary research project, SYNERGIA, funded by the Swiss National Fonds (SNF) to define new phenotype-genotype correlations in vascular anomalies and to characterize known germline and somatic mutations of patients included in our database. We aim to improve therapy of vas-cular malformations by using a precision medicine approach. The MD-PhD student will participate in the ANGIO boards and the consultations (MD part). Furthermore, somatic and germline mutations will be analyzed in collaboration with molecular pathology and human genetics (PhD part). The possibility to specialize in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology is given. Interaction with international collaborators and the European VASCERN network is mandatory. Your profile We expect enthusiastic candidates, with strong commitment to pediatrics. Experience in care for children with vascular malformations would be beneficial. Experience with registries, databases, clinical trials and personalized medicine is wanted. The package We offer a stimulating work environment with an interesting pediatric hematology oncology activity. Journal clubs, regular seminar and lectures are provided. Exchange with other disciplines in the SNF funded SYNERGIA consortium is mandatory. The applicant will been rolled in the Graduate School for Cellular and Biomedical Sciences (GCB) at the University of Bern. The candidate will present results at international conferences.
