Receptionist in Zürich

Studierende finden an der ETH Zürich ein Umfeld, das eigenständiges Denken fördert, Forschende ein Klima, das zu Spitzenleistungen inspiriert.

Jobbeschreibung

80%-100%, Zurich, fixed-term

At the ETH Student Project House we inspire and empower students to cultivate a maker and innovator mindset. We believe that by exploring their ideas and developing their own projects, students gain valuable hands-on experience and learn important skills for their future. This is why we’ve created an ecosystem where students (Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral) are encouraged to ideate, build prototypes, test and refine them.

Our interdisciplinary team of thirteen people provides students that want to pursue extracurricular projects of various types and scales, with a comprehensive range of support. We have a co-working, ideation, and event space and offer coaching. In addition, we have a greatly equipped Makerspace that gives students access to the tools and equipment they need to prototype.

As we are opening a second location in September, we need a welcoming person who acts as the first point of contact for our students and guests at the welcome desk. Read on to see if that might be you!

Project background

You’ll work in one of the most inspiring spaces at ETH Zürich, surrounded by 3D-printers, whiteboards, ideation equipment, self-designed furniture, and plants.

  • We have two locations, one at ETH Hönggerberg and one at ETH Zentrum.
  • We offer a contract for 2 years with the possibility to prolong the contract.
  • As students usually work in the afternoons and evenings, we are looking for someone to cover the welcome desk from 12:00 to 20:00.
Job description

You’ll be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Welcoming students and guests upon entry to our space. You will be the first point of contact for all our students and guests, and set the tone for the community. Students and guests are required to check-in upon arrival and check-out when they leave. You can help them to the best of your ability and/or connect them with the right people. This includes (but is not limited to) answering questions, acting in case of an emergency, and picking up the telephone at our welcome desk.
  • Give tours of our space(s). Students and guests who visit us for the first time will get a tour through our space(s). We would love for you to get them excited about the Student Project House and show them all we have to offer. Introduce them to fellow team members and other students who have already started a project with us.
  • Space management. It is important to us that the space is user friendly and welcoming. Keep an eye on the space, and how it is being used. Make sure we have all supplies necessary (e.g. coffee, tea, ideation supplies, etc.) and brainstorm ideas on what items (e.g. furniture pieces) we can add to make it a great space for students to bring their ideas to life.
  • Overall team support. Our team of 13 is constantly coming up with new ideas and projects to improve SPH. You will be a part of this process and lend a helping hand to team members working on various projects (e.g. events, marketing, social media, etc.).
Your profile

We need your welcoming and outgoing personality to make all our students and guests feel welcome.

  • You are customer service oriented.
  • You have some years of experience in a similar position and are organized, reliable and have great communication skills.
  • You are outgoing and enjoy initiating conversations.
  • You have a passion and interest for new and exciting projects, initiatives and startups.
  • You are fluent in English and German, other languages are a plus.
  • You are able to react flexibly and calmly in urgent situations (i.e. emergency situations).
  • You have an ability to manage priorities and to work autonomously in a fast paced environment.

A note: research indicates that women and individuals from marginalized groups tend to apply only when they meet all of the criteria. If you believe you’re qualified, but don’t necessarily check every box, please submit an application.
