Jobbeschreibung

100%, Zurich, fixed-term

A PhD position in Stem Cell Biology and Tissue Engineering is available in the Laboratory of Regenerative and Movement Biology at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology (D-HEST).

Project background

PhD position in stem cell and skeletal muscle biology is available in the Laboratory of Regenerative and Movement Biology at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology (D-HEST) at ETH Zurich. The primary scientific interest and direction of the lab is to study the regenerative and therapeutic potential of stem cells, with emphasis on pluripotent and skeletal muscle cells.

Job description

The proposed research project is affiliated with the new Advanced Engineering with Living Materials (ALIVE) program which purposes to “design principles of living systems as a basis for sustainable, intelligent and resilient materials and technologies of thefuture” (). Specifically, the PhD student will be part of a project which aims to reconstruct in vitro an actuated human joint organoid for personalized health medicine purposes. Utilized methods will involve stem cell differentiation into mesodermal cell types (i.e. muscle, bone, tendon) and creation of a 3D skeletal muscle bioconstruct that can be controlled using a chemical or light stimulus.

Your profile

Interested applicants should have a master’s degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or an equivalent research related field in addition to a strong background in molecular biology assays. Ideally, these will include experience with mammalian cell culture and tissue engineering techniques, gene delivery by retro or lenti-viruses, PCR, qPCR, immunostaining, Western blot and FACS analysis.
