Postdoctoral Researcher (Analytical Chemistry, Single-Cell Analysis) in Zürich

Studierende finden an der ETH Zürich ein Umfeld, das eigenständiges Denken fördert, Forschende ein Klima, das zu Spitzenleistungen inspiriert.

Jobbeschreibung

100%, Basel, fixed-term

The Bioanalytics Group at the Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering/ ETH Zurich in Basel led by Prof. Petra Dittrich develops a new generation of analytical instruments and methods for cell and membrane analysis using microsystems technology.

Join our interdisciplinary research team! You will work at the interface of biology, analytical chemistry and microfluidic technology.

Project background

High-throughput screening methods are required to find, test and analyze new compounds and drugs. To address this challenge, we use droplet microfluidics, which allows for the creation of tiny reaction and cultivation wells. The resulting emulsion has an excellent monodispersity, with droplet volumes in the range of pico- or a few nanoliters. The technique is commonly used in combination with fluorescence spectroscopy. In addition, we employ mass spectrometry for a more detailed analysis of the enclosed compounds or reaction products.

Job description

The open postdoc project involves droplet microfluidics, droplet manipulation and analytical methods including microscopy and mass spectrometry. You will build a microfluidic platform for single-cell analysis. Specific tasks are:

  • Design and development of microstructured targets for microscopy and mass spectrometry
  • Development of assays for multimodal analysis of cells
  • Development of workflows for data acquisition and analysis
  • Writing scientific publications and grant applications
  • Supervision of students projects
Your profile

The combination of biological and technological aspects is central in our group. You should have a strong disposition to learn and improve methods and you should be very open to different research fields. A strong background in analytical chemistry/analytical methods is required, particularly experiences with mass spectrometry. Previous experiences in the field of microfluidics/lab-on-chip technology are useful.
