Studierende finden an der ETH Zürich ein Umfeld, das eigenständiges Denken fördert, Forschende ein Klima, das zu Spitzenleistungen inspiriert.
The Optical Nanomaterial Laboratory at the Physics Department of ETH Zurich is looking for a PhD candidate in integrated photonics for light source development in collaboration with industry. The preferred starting date is between March and June 2023.
Coherent and tunable light sources are needed for a wide variety of applications such as optical communications, ranging and sensing to name a few. Though, the integration of broadband laser is still a challenge. The recent progress in integrated optics and new material platforms open new possibilities for the development of for chip-scale narrow linewidth and widely tunable light source.
This PhD project aims to realize miniature optoelectronic devices from a newly developed thin film platform with more functionalities than typical semiconductors. Most current integrated photonic structures are passive, here the goal is to create multifunctional active devices that can be actively tuned without changing the hardware design. The project aims at integrating a tunable mid-infrared source with a nonlinear material platform. It involves the nanofabrication of optoelectronic devices by top-down methods, optical characterization using custom-built setups, numerical modelling, and packaging of hybrid structures.
ETH Zurich is a family-friendly employer with excellent working conditions. You can look forward to an exciting working environment, cultural diversity and attractive offers and benefits.
