The is a research group in the Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (D-ITET) at ETH Zurich and led by Prof. Dr Juerg Leuthold.
We are interested in component design, nanofabrication, and system testing of novel technologies for optical communication. Our main goal is to provide faster and more compact solutions while reducing energy consumption. Our main focus to achieve this goal lies on the plasmonic technology and on its integration on chip.
We are looking for creative and highly motivated researchers to join our team. Apart from actively performing research, PhD positions at the IEF include international collaborations with academia and industry, mentoring BSc and MSc students, and teaching activities in the areas of optics & photonics, optical communication, electrical engineering, and theory & modelling of electromagnetic waves.
This PhD position is created to reinforce the group on the development of electro-optic materials and their integration in photonic circuits towards the first generation of smart optical transceivers. More specifically, you are supposed to contribute to the development of a new material platform based on plasmonics and to develop its integration with existing plasmonic components or alternative photonic platforms.
Besides your research activity, you are expected to study towards the doctoral degree and participate in our teaching activities.
This PhD position is fully funded with a competitive salary according to ETH guidelines. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.
