PhD Position in Optical Spectroscopy of Quantum Nanomaterials at the Single Photon/Phonon Level in Zürich

Studierende finden an der ETH Zürich ein Umfeld, das eigenständiges Denken fördert, Forschende ein Klima, das zu Spitzenleistungen inspiriert.

Jobbeschreibung

100%, Zurich, fixed-term

A PhD position is available in the Functional Inorganic Material group () at ETH Zurich (Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences).

Job description

The research activities involve comprehensive characterization of new perovskite-based nanomaterials, in the form of single quantum dots or superlattices, their optoelectronic properties and the development of a new generation of nanomaterial-based nanophotonic devices that operate down to the single-photon level.

State-of-the-art optical characterization methods including micro-photoluminescence experiments will be employed to characterize the optical properties of single quantum dots and the statistics of the emitted photons. Ab-initio (DFT) molecular-dynamic simulations will be used to guide and interpret the experimental results.

Your profile
  • A relevant MSc degree (e.g., in chemistry, physics, or engineering) with outstanding grades
  • Solid background in spectroscopy and data analysis (via Matlab, Python, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of quantum properties of light
  • Previous experience with semiconductor quantum dots and computational chemistry (e.g. DFT, molecular dynamics) as well as advanced programming skills will be beneficial
