Postdoctoral position in Neuroepigenetics and Chromatin Biology in Zürich

Studierende finden an der ETH Zürich ein Umfeld, das eigenständiges Denken fördert, Forschende ein Klima, das zu Spitzenleistungen inspiriert.

Jobbeschreibung

100%, Zurich, fixed-term

The lab of Neuroepigenetics at the Brain Research Institute of the University and the Institute for Neuroscience of the ETH Zürich, Switzerland is looking for an experienced epigeneticist interested in chromatin remodeling.

Project background

The project aims at investigating the mechanisms underlying the impact of life experiences on the genome and epigenome in relation to brain functions and behavior across generations. The purpose is to examine the effects of exposure on genome sequence, structure, and activity including retrotransposition and chromatin looping, and their inheritance in the germline and brain cells.

Job description

The new postdoc will run a research project investigating the molecular mechanisms involved in the expression and inheritance of complex traits resulting from early life experiences. The project will focus on factors and mechanisms that modify the genome's and chromatin's activity in relation to higher-order brain functions and behavior across generations in mice. The main goals are to identify the processes that link experiences in early life, particularly traumatic stress, to the regulatory genome and chromatin structure and functions in the brain and assess their causal implication in induced phenotypes.

You will join a pluridisciplinary team at the interface between epigenetics, neuroscience, reproductive biology, and bioinformatics using approaches based on environmentally- and genetically-modified mouse models. Close collaboration with team members working on the epigenome and chromatin in germ cells will be desired.

Your profile

You must have a strong interest in the molecular mechanisms of genome and epigenome regulation in the brain and in the use of innovative tools to manipulate them in vitro and in vivo.

Required experience and skills:

  • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, or related field
  • Solid theoretical and practical background in genetics/epigenetics and chromatin biology
  • History of independent development and execution of research projects
  • High scientific curiosity and creativity, critical thinking, flexibility, and willingness to learn new skills
  • Strong team spirit, willingness to share and help, and good communication skills
  • Solid experience in scientific writing and oral presentations

Technical expertise:

  • Strong experience in wet-lab techniques, molecular cloning, cell culture, and associated methods including imaging
  • Solid expertise in advanced genome/epigenome technologies including multi-omic methods such as RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, and Hi-C, and in the use of CRISPR systems for genome/epigenome editing
  • Experience in animal work including surgical brain procedures e.g. stereotactic injection
  • Skills in bioinformatics and data analyses
