Postdoctoral position – integrated sensors for bioaerosols in Zürich

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the (Prof. Dr. J. Wang). The successful candidate will hosted by the Institute of Environmental Engineering, ETH Zürich. Position starting from October 2023 or open agreement.

Project background

The research is related to development of integrated sensors for sampling and detection of bioaerosols. Bioaerosols, including airborne bacteria, viruses, fungi, and fragments of these organisms pose risks to human. Even minute amounts of inhaled bioaerosols may cause adverse health impacts such as infectious dieses, allergic diseases, reactions to toxins or irritants. Our group is engaged in development of various sensors targeting biological pollutants. We are looking to consolidate developments made in sample collection, pretreatment, measurement, signal analysis and result communication, leading to integrated, user-friendly and robust sensing systems.  

Job description

The involved tasks include

  • To develop sampling and pretreatment methods for bioaerosols
  • To automate the measurement methods for biological targets
  • To achieve real-time data analysis and result communication
  • To integrate the sensing system, perform calibration and demonstrate applicability
Your profile

We are looking for suitable candidates with a doctoral degree in biotechnology, bioengineering, microbiology, or related fields with excellent academic records. Interested candidates should have strong research backgrounds and solid independent research ability. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required.
