The Chair of Circular Engineering for Architecture (CEA) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified PhD candidate in the field of digital technologies for circular economy in the construction sector. You will join a dynamic research team working on innovative approaches to enhance circular construction practices. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of tools and strategies that promote circular management of building components and projects, enabling a more sustainable and regenerative built environment.
The selected candidate will be involved in developing a new matchmaking service for circular management of reused construction elements. The project will focus on the development of algorithms for matchmaking and logistics services, as well as a Building Information Modelling (BIM) integration. It operates at the intersection of computer science, civil engineering, and architecture.
Your responsibilities will include the development of both theoretical concepts and practical tools for matchmaking of reused elements in the construction sector. Additionally, you are responsible for the development of theoretical concepts and algorithms for matchmaking for circular construction, together with industry and research consortium partners in Switzerland. The exploration of implementation possibilities for automated workflows and matchmaking tools in existing construction projects, and validation and testing of proposed and developed solutions in pilot projects are also part of your expertise. As well as the engagement and collaboration with stakeholders such as construction companies, standardization bodies, consultants, and other industry partners to promote the adoption of the developed data template and tools. Furthermore, the active participation in research activities, including publishing scientific papers and presenting findings at conferences and workshops, and the supervision of Master, and/or Bachelor students are your responsibility.

The position is full-time (100%) and is offered on a fixed-term basis. The initial contract duration is 1.5 years, with a possibility of a 3.5-year extension based on performance evaluation.
