Internship the Neurodegeneration Group (as soon as possible for 12 months) in Basel

In the Neurodegeneration group we investigate mechanisms underlying disease biology using multidisciplinary approaches to develop novel therapeutics in the field of Alzheimer, Parkinson and other neurodegenerative disorders with high unmet medical need. You will be part of a multinational research team located in the Roche Innovation Center in Basel and will have the opportunity to collaborate with scientists, postdocs and research associates.

Your main accountabilities will be:
  • Support developing innovative cellular models based on human pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived neurons and the characterization of their translational value

  • The application of molecular, biochemical and imaging approaches to understand disease-related molecular processes and their contribution to disease phenotypes

  • Investigating and validating novel molecular mechanisms implicated in Alzheimer disease

What do you need in your toolbox?
  • You are currently enrolled in a Bachelor or Master’s degree in cellular or molecular Biology, Biochemistry or Neuroscience

  • You have a good understanding of neurodegeneration principles

  • You have experience with 1) mammalian cell culture, in particular with hiPSC-derived neuronal differentiation techniques, 2) gene expression analysis (in particular with quantitative PCR methods), 3) imaging (fluorescence microscopy, RNA-FISH) and biochemistry (protein analysis, immunoprecipitation) as a plus

  • You are a strong team player also able to work independently.

  • You are proactive and keen to design, execute, analyze and present experiments under the supervision of mentoring scientists.

  • You are fluent in English (both verbal and written)
