Postdoc position in the field of transmission electron microscopy of nucleation reactions – theory and experiments in Dübendorf

Goal of the project is the investigation of nucleation phenomena using experimental approaches complemented by density functional theory and/or molecular dynamics simulations in the area of in-situ (scanning) transmission electron microscopy. The project is part of an extensive team effort, funded by ERC, which aside from liquid-phase measurements addresses additional electron microscopy approaches to study nucleation and particle-growth reactions at or near atomic resolution. Possible areas of research activities cover theoretical complementation of experimental results by MD and/or DFT calculations, liquid cell measurements, experiments employing ionic liquids, including measurements at variable temperatures, or investigations of particle self-assembly.

We are looking for a highly motivated young scientist with a PhD in chemistry, physics or a related discipline, and a background in electron microscopy, including experience using molecular dynamics and/or density functional theory calculations. Candidates with demonstrated research skills and excellent scientific background will be considered. Proficiency in spoken and written English is mandatory, basic comprehension and oral expression skills in German are desirable, but not mandatory.

We offer this postdoc position at a research institution in Dübendorf, very close to Zürich, Switzerland, with excellent infrastructure and interdisciplinary environment. This full-time position is available as of January 1st 2020 for a periode of 1 year, extendable but subject to good performance.
